Faqolallahu taala fil qur’anil kariim :
Ali Imran 102:
An Nisa 1:
Al Ahzab 70-71:
All praise to Allah, who created human, life and the universe. I bear witness that there is none to be worshipped than Allah, One, with no partners. He sent His Messenger Muhammad (s) with Islam as a guidance and way of life.
Dear Jamaah rahimakumullah.
Let us strive to increase our taqwa to Allah s.w.t., just like we try our best to increase our skill in programming, language, hobby, any other hardskill. Just like we try our best to increase our knowledge about economy, politics, theoretical in our field. Just like how we increase those, lets us increase our taqwa to Allah swt. in the same manner how we planned for those target carefully.
Dear Jamaah rahimakumullah.
As we already from the news recently, islam world facing many problems, many issues in many places. Starting from unfinished conflict/war in Palestine and middle-east, hostage crisis in Australia, shooting accident in France, and probably as we all aware, the newest issue we face is hostage threat regarding to Japanese residence. Probably this is one of the fitna that we face at as sign of the end of time. Muslim was attacked from many direction, not because they small in number, rather because islam is numerous but weak like a froth/foam that can be easily wiped out by the sea torrent. We will face many fitna in all over the places. How should we react as a muslim with this fitna?
I am not really confident myself to give my own opinion to discuss about the recent problem, or confidently said that this era is the end of time. But what I would like address today, in this sermon, is the conclusion / resume that I got from several muslim scholars which talking about, what is our attitude as a muslim toward the fitna, trial, tribulation. It is not only about big/heavy matter, but also about the trial/test that we face even in smaller shape, like if we have the problem with money, scholarship, or study. What is our attitude toward trial/test given by Allah in our life. Hope the resume would be helpful for us insha Allah.
I will speak in 3 points. The first point is, what is fitna. Why Allah sent it down to us. Let’s us see from Qur’an al ankaboot 1-3:
Alif, Lam, Mim. Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: “We believe,” and will not be tested. And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allah will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars.
From this ayat, we know that the word fitna was translated as tested, difficult test. The root of the Arabic is fa-ta-na. The scholars said that this word also have another meaning such as purifying gold. To purify the gold, we need to melt it in a very high temperature so that the impurities will melt away or evaporate. So we can say that this is the way / test to purify the gold. To purify the gold compre with purify the rice, that’s totally different. While we can easily throw away the impurity on the rice, but purifying the gold need certain level of temperature. The impurity is lie deep inside the gold so we need to melt it first.
In short, fitna is trial, difficult test from Allah, that Allah give it deliberately / purposely, to purify the believer.
So, facing many problems that we have in our life, just believe it in our hearth, that Allah want to purify us from any impurity so that we can face Allah in akhirat in a pure condition.
That’s the first point. The second point is, Let us see the example of response of our Allah’s prophet, and also Rasulullah, which was written in Al Qur’an.
Prophet Nuh. QS Hud 27-34.
In short, prophet Nuh was mocked by their ummah, debate, being told crazy, even they request to be sent azab to them. But prophet Nuh said:
“Allah will bring to you if He will. And you cannot escape from it.”
Prophet Musa. As shuara 23-32.
In short, there are dialog between Musa and Firaun. Firaun is very angry to Musa because he deny Firaun as god. And firaun said that he is crazy:
[Pharaoh] said, “Indeed, your ‘messenger’ who has been sent to you is crazy.”
response: (very beautiful, even against firaun) by praising Allah swt. Not anger nor insult.
[Moses] said, “Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were use your reasoning.”
Prophet Muhammad. He was insulted as sihr, magician, majnun, insane, kazzab, liar, even the combination, sihirun majnun, the crazy poeter.
“And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance”. QS Muzzamil 10.
Another lesson from after Uhud wars. QS Ali Imran 186:
“You will surely be tested in your possessions and in yourselves. And you will surely hear from those who were given the Scripture/Books before you and from those who associate others with Allah much abuse. But if you are patient and fear Allah (maintain consciousness of Allah) – indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of determination (most noble of deeds).”
This kind of insult already happen since many-many centuries ago. Its not new.
And Allah already give many example how to handle with it. We can also see that even after the battle of uhud (which is the problem of money, gold), Rasulullah ask their companion to keep patient and fear Allah (and maintain their consciousness).
That the second point. The third point is, about the shape of the trial, it could be good or bad.
And We have broken them (i.e. the Jews) up into various separate groups on the earth, some of them are righteous and some are away from that. And We tried them with good (blessings) and evil (calamities) in order that they might turn (to Allah’s Obedience). Q.S Al-Araf 168.
The tested from Allah doesn’t always in the shape of calamity. It could even in the shape of ni’mat given by Allah. Wherever we are, in Palestine, Iraq, syiria, between, france, or in japan, we have our own shape of trials. Probably the blessing given from Allah that we can study in japan safely, is trial given to us with a form of blessing. Can we maintain our iman, or justice, even if the country that give us safety here is, let’s say being injustice to islam? Not only for us who live in japan, but also this applied to anyone who live anywhere.
“O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah , witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just/fair. Be just/fair/righteous; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do”. QS Al Maeda 8.
QS 94: 5-6 (So verily, with/after the hardship, there is relief,)
That’s all the 3 point. Hope we can face any shape of trial, test given from Allah and graduate as the pure believer. Hope that our family can also face any kind of test given by Allah.
May we be blessed by Allah s.w.t. with noble character, and may
He protect us from disgraceful qualities and bad character. May
we maintain the bonds of ukhuwah among us as Muslims, and
may we be prevented from any conflicts that can weaken our
ukhuwah. Amin Ya Rabbal Alamin

Dear Jamaah jum’ah rahimakumullah
I would like to resume the 3 points. …
And about the trial give to us, maybe the smallest shape of trial is being ignorant.
They don’t know many about muslim, or perhaps they just misunderstand about islam, while the muslim itself also sometimes show misrepresented of islam.
Small example: islam is clean.
“If there were a river at the door of one of you from which they can bathe five time a day, do you think any of their dirt would remain on them?” They replied, “No, none of their dirt would remain.” He said (peace and blessings be upon him), “That is the example of the five prayers: by them, Allah wipes out sin.” [Bukhari (528) and Muslim (667)]
Islam teach us about cleaning. Take simple example, just because our ignorance after wudhu, and we let the toilet wet, Japanese people will think that islam people is dirty! We need to learn more about islam and its teaching, so that we wont become fitnah for islam, just because our ignorance to learn.
May Allah s.w.t. continue to protect us and our family members in iman and His guidance. And may Allah s.w.t grant us the love for our religion and for this beloved ummah, amin ya Rabbal Alamin
